The Knights of the Blessed Sacrament are a fraternity of Catholic men bound to prayer, penance, and the defense of the patrimony of the Church.

The Need

The fraternity was founded in 2021, in the midst of the lockdowns, at a moment when the churches were shut and Catholic men were left to keep the faith in isolation. The founders had arrived at the same judgment by separate roads: that liberalism, materialism, and modernism had worked their way not only through the world and the wider society, but into the life of the Church herself, and that the answer to it was not commentary but penance.

What they proposed was not a program or an association. It was a company of men who would take up the older weapons and use them.

The First Watch

On the first day of January, 2021, between five and seven men began a retreat of three months. It ran without interruption until Easter Sunday.

Its substance was prayer, penance, and ascetic discipline, offered for the sins of the world and for the private intentions each man carried into it. There was no audience for any of it. Nothing about those three months announced itself as the beginning of a fraternity; the men simply did not stop when the retreat ended.

Into the Streets and the Ruins

What had begun as a hidden discipline did not remain hidden. From its earliest months the fraternity took up public work, and it has continued in that work since: Rosary rallies, processions and the protection of churches, the defense of the unborn, the teaching of catechism, and retreats for men.

Its gravest labor has been at deathbeds. In June of 2021, following the collapse of the tower at Surfside, Knights were present to the dying and to the first responders who worked the site. Members of the fraternity have since kept that same vigil for their own brothers and for others in their final hours. It is the work least visible to the public and the one the fraternity holds most closely.

Today

The fraternity now works toward the formation of men for the protection of their families and for the propagation of the patrimony entrusted to them — the traditions, the doctrine, and the faith of the Catholic Church.

In this it sets itself in deliberate contradiction to the ordinary assumptions of the present age. It does so without apology, and it invites any Catholic man who shares that judgment to take up the same work.
